Submissions
Crownwell Press welcomes proposals from authors, scholars, and editors whose work aligns with our catalog and mission. We are a traditional publisher. We do not charge authors any fees at any stage of the publishing process. Please review the guidelines below before submitting.
What We Publish
- Theology. Systematic theology, historical theology, practical theology, sermons, and devotional works rooted in orthodox Christian conviction.
- Church History. Patristic, medieval, Reformation, and modern church history, including primary sources and scholarly narratives.
- Commentaries. Scholarly and pastoral commentary on biblical texts, with particular interest in exegetical depth and doctrinal fidelity.
- Biographies and Autobiographies. The lives of significant figures in Christian history, theology, and the broader humanities.
- Bibles and Bible Reference. Dictionaries, encyclopedias, concordances, word studies, and related reference works.
- Academic Reference. Specialized reference works in theology, history, and the humanities.
- Children and Young Adult. Age-appropriate works of theological, historical, or biographical substance.
- Public Domain Reprints. Proposals for new editions of public domain works under our Crownwell Classics imprint, particularly with new introductions, annotations, or editorial apparatus.
What We Do Not Publish
- Fiction (novels, short stories, or poetry collections by living authors)
- Prosperity gospel, Word of Faith, or similar material
- Self-help, pop psychology, or lifestyle books
- Politically partisan works (we are a theological publisher, not a political one)
- New Age, occult, or heterodox content
- Curriculum-only or workbook-only material (unless paired with substantial text)
- Vanity or subsidy publishing (we never charge authors to publish)

Manuscript Guidelines
Word Count
- Standard nonfiction: 80,000 to 120,000 words
- Children and young adult: 15,000 to 50,000 words
- Reference works: Length varies; please query first
Style and Formatting
- File type: Microsoft Word (.docx) only
- Style: Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition
- Scripture quotations: KJV or ESV preferred, with clear attribution
- Font: Standard serif, 12-point, double-spaced
- Margins: 1 inch on all sides
- Page numbers: Bottom center
- Notes: Footnotes preferred; endnotes accepted
Submission Materials
- Query letter (one page)
- Synopsis (2–5 pages)
- Three sample chapters (first three consecutive)
